			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In Fall 2009, <a href="http://emac.utdallas.edu/">Emerging Media and Communication program</a> (EMAC) at UT Dallas was approached by <a href="http://www.videofest.org/" target="_blank">Dallas Video Festival</a> to put together a YouTube session showcasing phenomenon viral videos. This playlist was curated by Mona Kasra and Kyle Kondras, who searched for YouTube videos that that utilize the online platforms as creative outlets and span the possibilities of social video beyond the general content sharing practices. </p>
<p>Mona and Kyle, first crowd sourced the idea by approaching EMAC faculty and students for their YouTube suggestions. They then curated this playlist out of many of their personal online video picks and the suggested ones.</p>

<p>Ask A Ninja is an award-winning series of comedy online videos by Kent Nichols and Douglas Sarine, featuring a ninja who answers e-mails from viewers. The first episode was released in November 2005. In January 2009, Forbes listed The Ninja as one of the top &#8220;Fictional Celebrities&#8221; on the web.<br />
&#8220;I Am Ninja&#8221; song  is performed by German band The Neu Tickles and written by satirist Brently Heilbron.</p>

<p>Simon&#8217;s Cat is a flash animated cartoon series on youtube by the English animator, Simon Tofield whose three cats -  Hugh, Jess and Maisie &#8211; provide inspiration for the series.<br />
Since its first release in 2008, the series has achieved global attention and one of his shorts “Let Me In,” racked up over 1 million YouTube views in just a week.</p>

<p>In September 2009, Team Manager for Freebord.com, John Laudin, came up with the idea for a multiple free-boarder styled event.  With a call-out for participants in the community, the company pulled in 36 free-boarders, and the video was shot and then posted to youtube.<br />
In just a month, and after being advertised on sites such as msn.com, CollegeHumor.com and The Huffington Post, the video drew in over 1,000,000 views.</p>

<p>MadV  is an anonymous YouTube video director and video persona who wears a replica Guy Fawkes mask,  popularized by Alan Moore&#8217;s graphic novel V for Vendetta. MadV is known for the viral campaign known as One World, which stands as YouTube&#8217;s most responded video of all time. He has been featured on the YouTube front page, and has been nominated for Most Creative Video in the &#8216;YouTube Video Awards 2006.</p>

<p>lonelygirl15 was an interactive web-based video series which began in June 2006, and ended on August 1, 2008. Lonelygirl15 first came to international attention as a &#8220;real&#8221; teenage blogger named Bree, who achieved massive popularity on YouTube.<br />
The show was eventually proved as a hoax by suspicious viewers and gradually evolved into a multi-character show including both character videoblogs and action sequences.</p>

Within a few months, &#8220;vote different&#8221; was downloaded by millions of people. The San Francisco Chronicle called it &#8220;a watershed moment in 21st century media and political advertising.&#8221;</p>

<p>In June 2009, Ahmadinejad&#8217;s landslide victory in Iran&#8217;s Presidential election, led to violent riots across the country. With foreign media outlets no longer able to rely on their own people on the ground, eyewitness YouTube clips posted by ordinary Iranians, became the only source of information.</p>

<p>DeadLine is a senior project, created by a student at Savannah College of Art and Design, Bang-yao Liu. This stop-motion animation took 3 months of planning, 4 days of shooting, and over 6000 post-it notes.<br />
Since June 2009, Deadline has had 2,816,640 views on YouTube, and even caught the attention of actor Ashton Kutcher who twittered about the piece.</p>

<p>&#8220;I Got a Crush&#8230; on Obama&#8221; was first posted on YouTube in June 2007 featuring a young woman seductively singing of her love for U.S. Senator (now President) Barack Obama. The video recieved over one thousand views within the first five hours of its posting, and by the second day the American news media took notice of the video&#8217;s growing popularity.<br />
The concept was the brainchild of 32-year-old advertising executive, Ben Relles, and was produced by BarelyPolitical.com. Actress and model Amber Lee Ettinger lip-synched the song for the video, and Leah Kauffman (of &#8220;My Box in a Box&#8221; fame) provided the vocals.<br />
